Essential elements of the ticket booking system in India

After every year, the number of railway lines and passengers has increased in India. The contributing reason is the country's rapid economic development. However, there was a persistent issue with purchasing train tickets with a large customer base. Also, many customers were not aware of the various types of tickets available with the Indian railways. WL (Waiting List)- The passenger is on the waiting list if their ticket status is WL followed by a number. The ticket can only be confirmed if passengers who have previously booked for the same journey cancel their tickets. After the chart is prepared, if a passenger's status is waitlisted, the passenger will not be assigned a berth. If a waitlisted ticket is canceled 48 hours before the train's departure, only a cancellation fee of Rs. 60 per person is deducted. If all passengers on an e-ticket are waitlisted after final chart preparation, the ticket is automatically canceled, and the money is refunded to the user's account.

CNF (Confirmed)- If the train booking online is Confirmed (CNF), the passenger is guaranteed a wide berth (Upper, Middle, Lower, Side Upper, or Side Lower) for the journey. A confirmed ticket's berth information is usually provided when the key is issued. Only in the case of First AC compartments (1A), the passenger may not receive berth information when the ticket is issued, as berth allocation for this class is done manually.

RAC- Once the general quota seats have been filled, passengers are placed in the RAC queue. RAC passengers are welcome to board the train, but a full berth is not guaranteed. Two passengers traveling by RAC are assigned to the same lower berth seat. The person in the RAC queue is given the status of CNF if any general quota seats are canceled.

Passenger Name Record (PNR)

A PNR number is assigned to a train ticket by the IRCTC computerized reservation system. 

The ticket contains the passenger's personal information and information about the journey and the train. This is a unique 10-digit PNR number. 

Train Number

The train number is next to the PNR number at the top of a printed ticket. You can look up information about a train by its number, such as arrival and departure times, en-route journeys, available classes, etc.

Fare

Different fares apply to other classes of seats on the Indian Railway. Senior citizens, women, patients, and disabled passengers benefit from Indian Railway's travel concessions.
